John Coghlan , Roy Lynes and Bob Young.

"SOFTER RIDE" . A  song which was originally released as the B side of
Paper Plane and not included on the Piledriver album although due to the public demand , Quo included it on Hello!  .
This version is from Wembley Arena , London 13 December 1997 during his UK Tour
and you can find it on several bootlegs like "Burning Wembley"
Enjoy it!!

One of the most succesful Quo singles all over the world was this "WHAT YOU´RE PROPOSIN¨".
Released in 11 October 1980 (this is the reason I´ve put this one this month)  , hit the UK charts at number 2.
Including on his Just Supposin´  album.
This version is taken from the End Of The Road Tour  , recorded in Milton Keynes 21.7.1984 .
This is the one that appears on the End Of The Road video : Rossi , Parfitt , Lancaster , Bown and Pete Kircher on drums.
The Quality is excellent and you can find it on the bootleg The Power Of Rock ´ n´ Roll .
NO

One of the most known unreleased Quo songs .
"REARRANGE" was recorded in 1979 at Trent Studios when the band
was working with the producer Pip Williams on his "Whatever You Want" album .
A good Rossi / Frost song here in a Demo version.
It is from a collection of four unreleased songs from the Whatever You Want sessions.
You can hear them in the CD Demos from 1992.
With the old line up.

Under The Influence is the last album from the band.
Great songs on it , probably the best album from the "new Line Up" .
This is "THE WAY IT GOES" , first single from the album. The song deserved to be a hit but....
This version was recorded Live at the Ruskin Arms in East Ham ,
London on March 29th of 1999 in the Pub Tour Quo did in England and you can find it on the
"Rockin´All Over the Pub Ruskin Arms" CD Bootleg.

"PICTURES OF MATCHSTICK MEN " The first Hit Single from the band ,
released in January of 1968 on PYE Records .
This song was intented to be the B side from the single Gentleman´s Joe Sidewalk but finally they changed the order.
It reached number 7 in UK and number 8 in USA.
The band recorded this song in many BBC Sessions in their first years and a new version was recorded in 1999 as a B side from the Little White Lies Maxi CD in a spetial digi-pack edition released in June. This is an alternative take , a Demo version of the song from 1967.
Included on the CD Demos .

This month the song is  "ONE MAN BAND"  , originally in the
"Rock Till You Drop" album from 1991.
Written by Rick Parfitt and the producer Pip Williams
This version is from the Live Open Air show in Ramsau , Austria on 20/2/1999.
You can find this one in the "Freezing Doll" CD Bootleg.

JUNIOR´S WAILING  Recorded live at the Rainbow Theatre Finsbury Park in London 1st March
(this is the reason I put this song this month) 1973 , an original Radio Transcription for the BBC In Concert series.
Classic Quo opener since 70 to 77 and played again in the 90´s but on medleys or in a shorter version.
This is with the classic old line up : Rossi/Parfitt/Lancaster/Coghlan. Alan on lead vocals (great !).
Junior´s Wailing is originally from the band Steamhammer and included on their debut album.
Composed by Kieran White and Martin Pugh , the two guitarrists of the group.
The song apperared on the Ma Kelly´s Greasy Spoon Quo album (title was a suggestion of Bob Young) in 1970
altough the song originally was not intented to be recorded for it , they later decided to include it on Ma Kelly´s.
The sounf Quality is perfect and you can find it on many bootlegs with different names such as
"Paper Plane" (officially edited for a collection of Rock and mags in Spain and Italy) , "Ready Steady Quo" , "In Concert" ,
"Roadhouse Blues" and  "It Was Just A Good name And One That We All  Liked" .

 JEFF RICH DRUM SOLO
Jeff Rich has left the band. Many mails in the Quo mailing list have been posted about the drums solo Rich has done with Quo.
This is one of them. RICH´S DRUM SOLO played in the middle of Roadhouse Blues live in Stockholm Globe Arena 19/11/1994
From a Radio Broadcast Of The FM Show. You can hear it in the Bootleg Stockholm 94.
Good luck Jeff!!!!

 UNDER THE INFLUENCE
This month the song is the celebrated Under The Influence. A great song where Andy plays harmonica.
This song was recorded in 1999 for the UTI album and played live in the 99 tour.
Extract from the bootleg CD Full Steam Ahead which captures the Baden Baden Show
for the German TV  in June 17 of 1999.

LITTLE  DREAMER
Little Dreamer originally appears in the "Perfect Remedy" album ,
one of the less favourite album of the fans. This song was recorded in the Perfect Remedy Tour at the NEC in 18.12. 1989.
You can see this song in the One Tour Wonders or in The Power Of R&R bootlegs.
Francis Rossi use to play the intro in the soundchecks.
This version is included as well in their official video Rockin´ All Over the Years.
The sound is perfect.

 DIRTY WATER
The "Lovely Dirty Water" as Francis Rossi says ...
A Rossi/Young song from the Rockin´All Over The World album , released in 1977 .
This song is a classic live where the public can help the band with the famous o-oo-oh chorus.
A kind of country song with a great guitar work.
They started to play the song in 1977 and they still play it nowadays.
This version is from the double CD Bootleg "Holland ´86" recorded live in Holland 9.11.1986

OVER THE EDGE
A great song that maybe Quo will never play again cos Alan Lancaster was the composer and the singer
(and you know he is not on the band now...) ...a pity.
This version is from the double Bootleg CD called "Live In Lausanne 1984" with Pete Kircher on drums
from their Farewell Tour. Backing vocals by Rick. Recorded in Lausanne 14/5/1984
and played since 1982 to 1984, originally on the Just Supposin album released in 1980.

  IS THERE A BETTER WAY
A great hard rockin´ song from the 70´s which was originally release in the No. 1 album Blue For You.
It was played by the band since their release in 1976 till 1979
and it was the opener in the great Tokyo Quo japanese official CD from 1976 Japan Tour.
Mystery Song , Rain and Is There A Better Way were the songs chosen to promote the album on Tv´s in 1976.
Composed by Alan Lancaster and Francis Rossi and sung by Alan and Rick Parfitt on chorus.

on drums and keys.

RAIN
From the double Cd Bootleg "Live In Berlin 2000" with Matt (great on this one , his fave Quo song!!) and Paul.
Rain is another classic, released as a single back in 1976 (originally on the Blue For You album) was the second single
Matt bought of Quo!. Written by Rick and it was first done to include it on the On The Level album but it wasn´t
finished at the end so they recorded it for the BFY album.
This version is recorded in Berlin  May 23, in their Famous In The Last Century Tour.

CAROLINE
A real classic.
Always in the set list and played as a opener in 1977 for the first time.
Written by Francis Rossi and Bob Young . There were two different versions-parts of the song
when the boys composed it :
a slow version (country one) and a fast version (more bluesy) , both recorded back in 1969
and written on a table napkin in the dinning room  of a hotel in Perranporth (Cornwall).
Then it appeared in the Hello! album (1973) their fisrt Number 1 album but as we know now : Solid rock and Top 5!!
Released on single the 31 August 1973 with the non-album B side Lancaster song , Joanne.
Superb Rick on rhythm guitar!
This one is from the "A Collection Of Live Songs" bootleg, a greeeat version from the Ernst Becker
Live Studio TV 17.6.1999 -Germany. Perfect sound!!
Listen to the Rick´s intro, it is slightly different , close to the bridge
Quo used to play when they mixed Backwater with Rockers Rollin live in the 77-78 tour.

LIVING ON AN ISLAND

This song was released as a single on the 16th of Novemnber of 1979 and was written by Rick Parfitt and Bob Young inspired by the Parfitt experiences living in Jersey during is tax exile year. It reaches number 16 and spend 10 weeks in the charts.  It was a surprising single from the band but it was a success. From their Whatever You Want album.
